Kiteboarding Signals
Kiteboarding Signals
I had someone ask me is there are standard hand signals for kiteboarding and I mentioned the main ones but I thought I would just seach quickly for a list of them. The main ones that everyone should know from lessons are:
1. The International Marine Distress Signal which is lifting your hands about your head and waving them together by crossing them back and forth.
2. Tapping your head with one hand to signal to someone that you are landing your kite as most people cant hear you in the water when you are coming in. (You will see people in busy or small kite launch areas signaling to people with the same sign(tapping your head) to ask you if you want them to catch your kite.)
3. When you are launching give the person holding your kite a thumbs up when you want them to release the kite after checking your lines and safety system. This is really important especially in higher winds when it's hard to hear people, so that the person holding your kite knows when to release it(I've seen a ton of non-kiters launching kites for their friends and thinking their friend is ready and just throwing the kite up.....only to see that the kiter wasn't ready and the kite falls back and drag along the ground. Wait for the thumbs up)
Here was a good article I found online with visuals of all the kite signals: Click Here
