Kiteboarding Toeside

Toeside riding is a great technique to know once you are comfortable with the kiteboarding basics. Most experienced riders use toeside riding for their transitions and turns. Toeside transitions can be initiated either by jumping or manually sliding your board.

Most riders learn to ride toeside by sliding their board into position as they are riding and is not difficult to learn but takes some practice on the timing and correctly shifting your weight from heelside to toeside.

To begin the slide push out your back leg and as soon as the board has slide 90degress, change your weight to your other leg and transition your weight from your heelside to your toeside

Initially you will ride with your upper body twisted forward and riding toeside with both hands (like the video shows below). As you get more comfortable with riding toeside most riders will let go of the bar with one hand so their body isnt as twisted.

Once you have completed the transition and are riding toeside, split your weight evenly over both legs (and adjust your weight as you ride to control speed and staying upwind)

Changing into toeside while jumping follows the steps as sliding; only it is performed while in the air.

The hardest thing is timing and getting used to the initial awkward position. With practice, it will feel the same as when riding normally.

Remember to divide your weight as you would do while riding normally. Again, your front leg is less bent than your back leg.

That is about it. You will probably catch an edge or lose your speed the first couple times you try it but once you get it will seem natural. Watch the body positioning of the guys riding in the video below (the video does a good job of slowing the transitions down) and go give it a try
